01 Jan European Historic Cafes Association (EHICA) event for the traditional “vasilopita” – In Chania’s establishments hosting kids the “lucky coin” from this year

At the Historic Café “Kipos”, on the New Year’s Eve, 1.30pm, was held the event for the traditional Vasilopita of  EHICA in the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Kydonias & Apokoronas. Damaskinos, Bishop of Dorylaios Damaskinos Lionakis and the priests who accompanied them.

The event was opened by the Host of the Historic Café “Kipos”, Founder & President of EHICA Mr. Vasilis Stathakis, who in his greeting speech, in addition to wishes for a year of health and creativity, spoke about the 150th anniversary of the Historic Cafe “Kipos”, an anniversary that will be celebrated this year. In fact, the history and culture of “Kipos” was the starting point for the creation of EHICA, a worldwide Cafes Association that proposed the hosting of the 10th International Forum “Cultural Routes” of the Council of Europe.

Mr. Stathakis also referred to the importance of EHICA’s initiatives and actions, focusing on the “Cultural Routes” forum to be held between 7-9 October 2020 in Chania and – as always – thanked all his associates.

Mr Stathakis also thanked for their active assistance both to the Association and to the 2020 Forum, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Pavlopoulos, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, political and institutional representatives etc.

The event was also attended by, among others, the Deputy Mayor of Culture of Chania Mr. Giannakakis, the Chania Police Director, Mr. Limpinakis, military unit commanders, etc.

It is worth noting that the “flouri”, the lucky coin on the vasilopita is of great importance since this year. It will be given to a Foundation hosting kids of the city, along with the gift that accompanies it. So this year the “flouri” was given to Father Amfilochios, who is in charge of the IMKA “Home of the Girls” who, after drawing a lot, will give it to one of the Girls of the House. The gift that accompanies the “flouri” is a trip to a city where is situated at least one Historic Cafe – EHICA Member!
